Song Kang and Kim So-hyun are teaming up again as the leads for the upcoming romance K-drama, White Scandal. The show’s broadcast network, MBC, recently announced the casting confirmation, marking a reunion for the stars five years after they last appeared in the hit series Love Alarm (2019 –2021).

White Scandal is based on the popular webtoon of the same name written by Moon Chae-ah. Directed by hitmaker Kim Cheol-kyu of Chicago Typewriter (2017) and Flower of Evil (2020) fame, it dives into a slow-burning romance that features a classic fake-dating trope. The story follows two emotionally wounded people from different walks of life who decide to enter a contract relationship to deceive the world around them. But as they play along, their lives become complicated when they discover their pasts are connected. The story unfolds with the two characters trapped in dark secrets amid a family power struggle, and eventually finding a way to heal their hidden scars together.

Song Kang stars as Dan Yi-hyuk, an elite actor dealing with a toxic family. Born out of wedlock, he’s an illegitimate heir to a giant conglomerate and plays the perfect grandson by day but secretly longs to break free from his family’s shadow. Enter Kim So-hyun as Ji Eun-seol, a former well-known child actress whose promising career vanished after an unfortunate event forced her out of the industry. She’s now scraping by as a low-profile manager with hidden dreams of making a comeback. Her life is turned upside down when she meets Yi-hyuk, who’s also linked to what happened with her in the past. Things get messy once they start pretending to be in a relationship, and it gets even more complicated when, in trying to convince the world they’re together, they risk believing their own lie.

White Scandal is expected to bring back the on-screen chemistry between the two leads, who drew attention as Hwang Sun-oh (Song Kang) and Kim Jo-jo (Kim So-hyun) in Love Alarm and its sequel. But while Love Alarm was all about an angsty high school romance, this new show promises a significantly more mature, complex, and emotionally charged dynamic between the characters.

Soompi reports that the drama will soon go into production, and while the official release date isn’t out yet, it’ll likely air next year.
