On Thursday, Netflix finally announced the OTT premiere for Alpha, the big-scale action entertainer starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead that recently had a theatrical release. Alpha will begin streaming on Netflix on Friday, August 28.
Directed by Shiv Rawail (The Railway Men), Alpha told the story of Sita (Alia Bhatt), a young girl raised and trained like a lab rat in Cherrapunji by Colonel Fateh, (Bobby Deol) after he is demoted by R&AW chief Vikrant (Anil Kapoor), as he continues to experiment with his secret program and a special serum he invented to create super soldiers. However, Sita eventually learns the truth and now wants to avenge her lost childhood.
Produced by Yash Raj Films, Alpha also featured Dia Mirza in a key role. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 130 crore, Alpha grossed Rs 98.6 crores at the box office worldwide, according to box office tracker Sacnilk, out of which nearly 70 crores came from domestic market.
The film largely received mixed to lukewarm reviews from both critics and audience. In our review for the film, we noted, “Alpha is a stale, reheated dish from YRF’s assembly-line kitchen. There seems to be no original idea in the film and the whole spy prototype seems to be lifted from The Mission Impossible franchise. The action has incessant slow-motion shots to make up for the lack of emotion and even the background music fails to add any propulsion.”
Sharvari has another big release coming up with Yeh Prem Mol Liya, where she co-stars with Ayushmann Khurrana. Meanwhile, Alia will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, also starring Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor. The period romance is tentatively scheduled for January 2027 release.
