Stray Kids has released the music video for “After You,” a beautiful visual centerpiece for their standout highlight from the new album, This & That (released Aug. 7). Both sonically and on screen, the track is a breath of fresh air from the aggressive energy that defines Stray Kids’ identity, moving toward a more emotionally mature electropop sound created by 3Racha, the group’s in-house production trio of Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han. The music begins with gentle acoustic guitar riffs, which evolve into an atmospheric pop-dance groove built around synth pads and a heartbeat-like electronic rhythm.

The cinematic, K-drama-like visual narrative of the song video expands its lyrical themes into an omnibus-style series of short stories celebrating friendship and human connection. The camera frames the members—Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N.—in everyday settings—a bar, a recording studio, an empty swimming pool, a quiet bus stop in the rain—as they process their own pain. We see them working day jobs, such as Changbin bartending or Bang Chan busking on a street, silently enduring the boredom and struggles of daily life until they open up. Through a shared smile and playful moments with a child during a street performance or meeting a loved one, the video showcases just how easily a random connection, or a fleeting moment changes who you are, restoring joy to a drifting world.

The song is essentially about that sudden, overwhelming paradigm shift that happens when a special presence changes your perspective. The lyrics and visuals contrast the coldness and repetitiveness of the past phase, where life seems stuck in a rut, with the freeing warmth of the later phase, an “After You” phase. This turning point and the emotional growth that follows manifestations in the chorus lines, “But I’m up all night, and I don’t know what to do / How can I breathe the same after you? / Oh I’ll swim through ocean eyes tryna get to you / I’ll never be the same after you…” The lyrics are apparently about romance, but the visuals go deeper, capturing how we search for comfort, inspiration and strength to carry on in others.

It underlines that the “you” driving the change in your life doesn’t always have to be a romantic partner. It can be a close friend, a long-lost passion, or just about anyone or anything that lends a helping hand when we are down. The song’s real-life scenarios turn daily struggles into opportunities for healing and hope as the video gradually moves from shots of loneliness and sadness to lighter, candid and shared moments, reflecting the journey from feeling stuck to feeling happy again.

“After You” is a refreshing addition to Stray Kids’ catalog, especially when compared to their energetic bangers such as “Lalalala” or “Chk Chk Boom” and definitely solidifies the group’s ability to deliver softer music and wistful longing just as well as heavy, booming tracks.
