ICE detains far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos in Louisiana

Far-right British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and faces removal from the country, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Yiannopoulos was arrested on Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana, DHS said in a statement on Friday.

The department said Yiannopoulos legally entered the US in May 2019 but “he chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws”.

According to DHS, an immigration judge issued a final removal order on 22 July “after failing to show up for his immigration hearing”.

“He will remain in ICE custody pending removal,” a DHS spokesperson said.

ICE’s online detainee database listed Yiannopoulos as being in custody on Friday and Fox News reported that he was being held in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Yiannopoulos previously worked as an editor at Breitbart News and served as an intern for former US representative Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2022.

He also worked on Ye’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Yiannopoulos has previously publicly supported tougher US immigration enforcement. In June 2025, he called on social media for ICE checkpoints across California and “on the spot deportation for anyone who can’t prove they are in the US legally”.
