Disney's D23: As Disney ramped up its new slate of films and series during its annual D23 fan convention, the updates were endless. With new projects in the Zootopia, Tangled and Frozen franchises announced, and a new fantasy adventure film, Clay, let us take a look at more announcements from the convention.

1. The Simpsons Movie sequel gets new title

A sequel to The Simpsons Movie (2008) was announced in 2025, with the working title of The Simpsons 2. Now it has been confirmed that the upcoming film is titled The New Simpsons Movie. According to various sources, a few minutes of footage shown at D23 features Homer Simpson causing chaos at a baseball game. The upcoming film is set to release in theatres in September 2027.

2. An anime series based on Kingdom Hearts is in development

Based on the fantasy adventure game, a new series titled Kingdom Hearts - The Series has been announced. While further details on the series hasn't been revealed, the first poster shows the video game's protagonist Sora with his sword. The series is also expected to chronicle Sora's adventures across various worlds, like the video games.

3. Lilo and Stitch 2 will see the return of a new alien from animation to live action

The sequel to the live-action Lilo and Stitch film, has been announced to feature Angel, who is Stitch's love interest. Angel was introduced in Lilo and Stitch: The Series and will feature alongside Stitch in Lilo and Stitch 2 which is set to release on May 28, 2028. Apart from the live-action film, Lilo and Scratch, an animated short film will open in theatres along with Hexed on November 25.

4. Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins join voice cast of Disney's Hexed

The latest addition to the voice cast of the upcoming animated fantasy-adventure film, Hexed, are Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins, who will play the evil Queen Celeste and a three eyed cat Beef Roger, respectively. The voice cast of Hexed also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Rashida Jones, Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry. Hexed is set to open in theatres on November 25.

5. Jon Favreau will develop a new miniseries titled Oswald

Jon Favreau, the director of Ironman (2008), Disney's The Jungle Book (2016) and The Mandalorian, announced that he is developing a new three-part animated miniseries, titled Oswald. Unlike the blue-coloured cartoon octopus, this Oswald is a rabbit. The series will release in February 2027.

6. The official trailer of the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been released

The official trailer of the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was unveiled during D23. Based on the novel by Rick Riordan, The Titan's Curse, the plot begins as Percy and his friends try to escort Biance and Nico Di Angelo to safety.
